Where is Miles? 2022 March and April

Hello, fellow map nerds. (My people!)

We receive many comments from people who are interested in where we are and what we have done. I thought I'd like to put together a general path of our travels, with the hashtag #whereismiles. We may need to do some catching up here, but I wanted to start with the season we're in now.

March finished off an amazing three months in the clear waters of the Bahamas. We headed down to the Dominican Republic, and then to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

We left from pretty far north, compared to most cruising boats, but we wanted to top off our diesel tanks before the four-day trip to Samana in the Dominican Republic.

The sail was fun, with a good weather window. Our friends on S/V Motu were just ahead of us, so we had a great idea of what to expect.
We fished, cooked in the sun oven, and split the shifts between Steve, Cindy, and I. The nights at sea were star-filled beauty, with no ambient light around us.

The Los Haitises State Park was worth a couple of visits. Otherwise we hung out at Bahia Mar Marina, and drove around the island.

The Mona Passage is known for being a challenge. We picked a good
weather-window and enjoyed the overnight trip with Steve and his dad.

We checked back into the USA in Puerto Real. We stayed a while to enjoy the food,
get provisions, and take Steve (and his dad) to the airport in San Juan. Then
we started our trek around the south side of Puerto Rico.

We saw bioluminescence, birds, Isla Caja de Muertos (Coffin Island), and met a
Mexican family about to complete their circumnavigation.

Culebra and Culebrita ended up being Velcro spots. We got stuck for a while, and enjoyed our time there. Snorkeling in crystal waters, great food, and a chance to practice our Spanish made it hard to leave. The islands are very welcoming to cruising boats. Our friend Mandie joined us for much of April.

We had looked forward to sailing our own boat to the United States Virgin Islands, and the British Virgin Islands for years. The BVI was NOT friendly to cruising boats the last few years  (several politicians are in jail now...) so we stuck to the USVI, and enjoyed our time in their waters. We even caught up with Carnivale celebrations in St Thomas, and discovered Christmas Cove, a place where you can snorkel the morning away, then order pizza from the Pizza Pi boat.

Magen's Bay finished out April for us. We had tried to visit on the previous times we had been to St. Thomas, and the cabs were full, or the price was crazy while a cruise ship was in port. This time, we sailed into the bay in our own boat, and stayed as long as we wanted.
